The two most important subjects in this newsletter are
the
highlights of the reunion
we just completed in St.
Charles, Missouri, and the
Taiwan trip
many of us will
embark on in April 2001. If you think you may want to go
with us to Taiwan, please read the information carefully, as
we need a deposit in a few weeks to get a pretty firm count of
those who are really interested.
The 2000 Reunion
Our Second Reunion in St. Charles, Missouri, 12-15
October 2000, was a great success. We had 56 of our troops
there, with a total of 109 members and family members
participating. It could only be improved by having more
troops in attendance. Two write-ups of the activities follow,
one by
Walt “Chuck” Lapsley,
and the distaff view by
Karen O’Connell

commemorating the 42
nd
year of our arrival on Taiwan. Over
100 members, guests and wives met in St. Charles Missouri
located just west of St. Louis. I flew in from the West Coast
to Lambert Airport on October 10, 2000 one day prior to
check-in at the St. Charles Holiday Inn Select. I was far
from being the member coming from the farthest distance to
be at the celebration.
Danny Funamura
and his wife flew
in from Koloa, Hawaii on the island of Kauai. Several
members drove in from all points of the compass.
After checking in I wandered around a bit and discov-
ered that another military group, the 684
th
Field Artillery was
also holding their reunion at the hotel. Their registration area
was across the lobby from our area. The group had served
the country a few years earlier than our Battalion. Bob had
