US-ROC Mutual Defense Commerative Badge
823 Campaign Badge of Honor
Taiwan Badges and Certificates
In the last newsletter of 2003, we mentioned that we would
ask the Dallas TECO (we meant Houston) to present the 823
Campaign Badge of Honor and/or the US-ROC Mutual
Defense Commemorative Badge to our members at the San
Antonio Reunion in October 2004. Some of our members
have received one, or both, of these badges. There is also a
certificate to accompany each of these badges. Those of us
who received the 823 Badge of Honor at the El Paso Re-
union in 1998 did not get an accompanying certificate. The
certificates have only been available for the last couple of
years.
With the exception of the 823 Badges that were presented
at the El Paso Reunion, all 823 Badges, ROC-US Com-
memorative Badges and their certificates have been certified
and processed by the BOHAUSA (Badge of Honor Associa-
tion USA) at < BOHAUSA@peoplepc.com>. This organiza-
tion of Taiwan Veterans does all of the coordination and
processing of the requests for badges and certificates with
the seven regional TECOs (Taiwan Economic and Cultural
Office). They do this for Taiwan vets who have an e-mail
address (other than AOL), upon receipt of a $25 processing
fee. Many of our members do not have e-mail, or access to
their web page on the Internet <taiwanvets.com>, so have
not known about the availability of these badges and
certificates.
We have asked the Houston TECO to present the badges
and certificates to our members (who have not previously
been issued the badges) at the San Antonio Reunion. They
have agreed to present the two badges; we are not sure about
the certificates. (The Taiwan government has just had an
election and they expect a new Minister of National Defense
to be named. He is the one who signs the certificates and we
must apply to the MND, through the TECO, for the new
certificates.) Regardless, we need to start collecting the data
to determine what is needed for a presentation of the badges
to our troops in San Antonio. The office of the Director
General of the Houston TECO has agreed that the Director
General will make a presentation of the badges on Friday, 8
October 2004. (The present Houston TECO Director
General, Edward Feng, is being replaced in June, but his
office has committed his replacement to attending our
presentation ceremony on 8 October. The specific details
will be worked out after Mr. Feng’s replacement is in
Houston.)
The badges are shown below. If you plan on attending the
San Antonio Reunion, please complete the appropriate form
at the end of this newsletter. You may also send the same
information by e-mail, or by filling out the form on our web
page. (See the included form for mail, e-mail, or web page
addresses.)
