San Antonio Reunion
The next reunion of the 2
nd
Missile Bn., 71
st
Artillery
(Taiwan) Assn. is only two months away. We have had a
good response to date, but we still need to hear from those
who have been putting it off until the last minute.
Hotel
The reunion hotel has had a change of owners. What was
the Sheraton Four Points Riverwalk North in now the
Clarion Hotel Riverwalk. The catering staff has not
changed.
The Clarion Hotel Riverwalk is located at 110 Lexington
Avenue, San Antonio. You can make your hotel reservations
at the same reservation number: 1-800-28-TEXAS. Reser-
vations should be made as soon as possible, as we will give
up all of the special rate rooms that have not been booked on
6 September 2004. The special rate is good from 4 to 12
October, so you come a little early, or stay a little late.
Reunion dates are 7 to 10 October.
Hotel Parking
Parking is available at the hotel. The group daily charge
for parking is $3.00 for self-parking, and $6.00 for valet
parking.
Travel to San Antonio
Air Travel – If you plan to travel by air, the major airlines
servicing San Antonio are American, America West, Conti-
nental, Delta, Midwest, Northwest, Southwest, and United.
The airport is located approximately eight miles, or 15
minutes, from downtown. There is no hotel courtesy bus to
the hotel, but cab rates are very reasonable.
Train - Amtrak also has service to San Antonio. Jim and
Judy Peoples, Charlie and Annie Trost, and Ben and
Lydia Seeley plan on taking Amtrak to San Antonio. Amtrak
has offered a special convention travel rate from 4 to 13
October. See Jim’s letter, in the last newsletter, for details.
Motor Home – If you plan on driving to San Antonio in
your motor home, and need information, contact Bob
Douglas by telephone at (915) 203-8065, or e-mail at

ROC Badges
The Houston TECO Director General, Mr. Kenneth K.M.
Liao, will present the 823 Campaign Badge of Honor and the
US-ROC Mutual Defense Commemorative Badge to our
members who have not previously received these badges
from the ROC government. Hopefully, they will also present
certificates for each of these badges. There is still a question
whether the Houston TECO will be able to get the certifi-
cates for our reunion. The ROC badges will be presented at
the reunion hotel on Friday afternoon, 8 October.
Group Photo
We may have a reunion group photo following the ROC
badge presentation. This is still being considered. If we
have the group photograph, the photo will be available for
purchase from the photographer.
Attendees
At the time of this newsletter, we had 97 people who had
sent in their reunion registration fee. We hope that there will
be 120 or more by reunion time. We also expect to have our
best representation from the members of the 128
th
Ordnance
Detachment that we have had at any reunion.
What’s Needed From Attendees
It is important to get in your reservations and certain other
materials as soon as possible. Many of you sent in an
advance registration fee in January or February. We still
need the Reunion Registration Form with payment for any
reunion activities that you wish to attend. They are the Texas
Barbeque, the Reunion Banquet, and the Memorial Break-
fast.
This form is included in the newsletter. On the back of this
form is another form that is needed to get the appropriate
badges from the Houston Taiwan Economic and Cultural
Office (TECO).
Earlier this year, we asked you to send in a 1958 ID photo
(or similar replica) with your registration material. We hope
to use these on our reunion Name Badges. Some of you
have complied, and some haven’t.
As an attachment to this newsletter, we will include
a summary of everything that you have submitted
and what, if anything, is still needed.
Each reunion
attendee should submit a registration form, a ROC
badge form, a 1958-59 ID picture, and make a hotel
